Chester Fields grew up in the rustic ranch country of the Canadian Pacific Northwest. He broke horses, hunted, fished, and also spent many hours drawing and painting his surroundings. After graduating from a graphics design program in Washington, he was drafted and served as a staff artist on an American Army base in Germany. He received early recognition for his paintings, and sold regularly in shows and galleries throughout the West. Due to their fine detail and realistic patina, bronze sculptures by Fields quickly became highly valued by art collectors. He has received many honors and awards from major art exhibits and museums. His "Splashdown" monument was awarded the Best Sculpture Award at the 1995 C.M. Russell Art Show in Great Falls, Montana.
