Port Hadlock, Washington artist David Eisenhour has an eye for detail. Besides learning photography while stationed in Germany during a stint in the Army, he became a highly skilled artisan at reputable foundries on the east and west coasts of the United States.
His work in these foundries greatly influenced his art, technically and artistically. His experience as an artisan allowed him to push technical boundaries with regard to texture and form. David developed an extensive and compelling body of sculpture, primarily bronze, using his experience in the casting process and his unique ability to see the natural world. He has worked full-time as a sculptor since 2003.
David was born and raised in northern Pennsylvania and joined the Army out of high school.
“My work is inspired by the impact of the natural world on our psyche,” he writes in his artist’s statement. “Employing a microscope or magnifying lens I find evocative primordial forms that convey the repetitive patterns of evolution. By accentuating the inherent symbolism in a form I am working to achieve a connection between artifice, viewer and the natural world.”
